A Benny Goodman Centennial Tribute

Welcome to A Benny Goodman Centennial Tribute

The year 2009 marks the 100th birthday of jazz legend Benny Goodman. We are very proud to announce that clarinetist Allan Vache has been given permission by the Goodman Estate and Bill Hyland, its executor, to present
“A Benny Goodman Centennial Tribute" show.

We will be performing in various combinations, from trio to Big band, as Benny did during his long career. The concert will feature clarinetist Allan Vache's Quartet, with Mark Shane, piano; Kevin Dorn, drums; and Matt Hoffmann, vibes.

BIOS:

ALLAN VACHE (Clarinet) -- One of the world's most acclaimed clarinetists, Allan Vache grew up in Rahway, New Jersey and attended Jersey City State College. He studied with David Dworkin of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and independently with famed jazz artist Kenny Davern. Since then he has performed all over the world and recorded dozens of CDs. Allan remains a popular featured performer at concerts, clubs and festivals worldwide. A recent review raved, "The man is an absolute phenomenon." He is also Music Director of the popular Jazzfest at Sea Cruises, which feature classic and traditional jazz groups on week-long sails to exotic destinations.

MARK SHANE (Piano) -- Mark Shane's jazz piano is firmly rooted in a tradition established by such jazz piano masters as James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson, Count Basie, Earl Hines and Art Tatum. While developing his solo style, Mark served an extended tenure as house pianist in New York's "Eddie Condon's" jazz club, adding a distinctive new voice to the Condon tradition of hot ensemble playing. He has played with Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate and many other All-Star alumni from the great bands of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller.
